Biography

Al Krogman was born and raised on a traditional farm in central Alberta, where he still lives today with his wife, Caroline. Though his roots are in the prairies, his inspiration has always leaned toward the mountains and the natural world, and that pull runs through his sculptural work. Each piece starts as raw steel, hand cut, forged, shaped, and welded into its final form, with no casting, molding, or mass production involved anywhere in the process. The result is sculpture that is genuinely one of a kind, drawing on a belief that nature's own design can only ever be copied, never improved upon.

Krogman has worked in the metal medium for 34 years and is a certified journeyman welder by trade. That background gives his sculptural process a level of technical precision not often found in decorative metalwork, and his refusal to use casts or molds means every piece that leaves his studio is a true original.
