Biography

Christine Code is based in rural Saskatchewan, where the province's reputation as the Land of the Living Skies runs through much of her work. Working in oil, she draws on impressionist and tonalist techniques, using brushwork and palette knife to convey a particular mood or atmosphere in each piece. She paints regularly en plein air, taking her easel into the rolling hills and farmland around her, and brings that direct observation back into her larger studio work. The result is a style grounded equally in place and in feeling, moody and atmospheric rather than strictly representational.

Code's work has been juried into numerous national and international exhibitions and recognized with awards from organizations including the Federation of Canadian Artists and Oil Painters of America. She has been featured in several fine art publications, became an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists in 2024, and her work is held in private collections across North America, Europe, and beyond.
