Biography

Gerardo Carsolio grew up in Mexico City, immersed in a culture rich in art, history, and creativity, where frequent hikes through the Mexican countryside sparked an early fascination with nature, studying flowers, leaves, seeds, and landscapes along the way. At a young age he developed a passion for woodworking, teaching himself through self exploration how to work as a furniture maker, carver, and painter. After moving to Canada and settling in Calgary, he continued developing his craft, eventually combining painting and carving into a single, unified practice using wood itself as his canvas. His work draws out the natural grain, hue, and texture of the wood, with light serving as the final element that reveals the carved detail and draws the viewer into the piece.

Carsolio is a self-taught artist across all three of his disciplines: furniture making, carving, and painting. His work has been featured at the Calgary Stampede's Western Oasis Art Show, bringing his signature combination of painting and carving to a wider audience.
