Biography
John H. Burrow creates bright, colour-filled acrylic and oil paintings often described as joyful and playful, leaving people with a genuine sense of good feeling when they see his work for the first time. Rather than committing to a single recognizable style, as many artists do, Burrow paints across genres, using a folk art style to capture warm memories of his small-town New England upbringing and a more impressionistic, impasto technique to render scenes like an old farmhouse surrounded by a lush garden. He also draws inspiration from the Canadian landscape and the painting tradition of the Group of Seven, and is frequently found working en plein air, favouring a free, fluid, painterly approach outdoors.
Burrow's background in commercial art gave him the versatility to move easily between styles and genres. He is a member of several plein air painting associations across North America, including the Canadian Plein-Air Painters and the California Art Club, with work held in collections around the world.Influences
The Canadian landscape and the Group of Seven are also a source of inspiration for John. He can be frequently found painting en plein air working in a free and fluid, “painterly” style.
