  • Biography

Barbara Janman is a Canadian artist whose stone and wood carvings capture the spirit and wildlife of Western Canada. Her work features a range of subjects, including trees, owls, polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears, Inukshuks, and other iconic Canadian animals. Through a refined sense of form and texture, her pieces reflect the rugged beauty and quiet strength of the landscapes that inspire her.

Barbara began carving in 2000, initially working in wood before expanding into stone. Over time, her dedication to the craft has earned her national and international recognition. In 2010, she was named International Wildfowl Carver of the Year, becoming the first Canadian and the first woman to receive the award.

Her work has been commissioned by private collectors and featured in public exhibits, including contributions to the Dinosaur Provincial Park. Today, she continues to explore and express the natural world through sculpture, with a renewed focus on stone as her primary medium.
