Artist’s Statement
Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of western Canada, I paint to evoke a sense of adventure and encourage exploration. Living at the meeting point of the prairies and the Rocky Mountains, I draw from the rich natural beauty surrounding me, capturing its energy and wonder through vivid acrylic paintings.
My signature style is defined by bold brushstrokes, and vibrant hues. Each piece reflects my deep appreciation for nature, transforming familiar landscapes into scenes filled with movement, that evoke nostalgia and invite the viewer to connect with the land and sky. Whether depicting the golden fields of the prairies, the rugged peaks of the Rockies, or the serene beauty of a glowing sunset, my work serves as a loving tribute to the places that inspire me.
In each piece, there is a strong focus on contrast. The contrast of bright sunshine and dark stormy skies, large dynamic brushstrokes and crisp intricate details, the contrast of delicate wildflowers and weathered mountains that have stood the test of time.
Through my art, I seek to ignite a spirit of adventure, reminding people of the magic that exists just beyond their doorstep.
Biography
Carmen Frank is based just outside Calgary, Alberta, creating acrylic paintings inspired by the landscapes of Western Canada. Born and raised on the West Coast of British Columbia, she grew up surrounded by the arts, exploring drawing, ceramics, sewing, and woodworking before moving to Alberta at seventeen, where she fell in love with the sweeping prairie skies. Painting began as a creative outlet from the stress of everyday life and has since grown into a full-time pursuit, with scenes spanning the West Coast, the Rockies, and the prairies of Alberta. A self-taught artist, her work is defined by vivid colour and bold brushstrokes, offering a lighthearted tribute to the natural world that evokes wonder, nostalgia, and comfort.
Frank moved to Alberta to study at the University of Alberta, pursuing a career in healthcare before shifting her focus to art full time. She has painted in acrylics for over 15 years and was featured at the Calgary Stampede Western Showcase in 2019, 2023 and 2024.
