Biography

Kari Duke built her career as an artist in Edmonton, Alberta, where she lived in a small community near the university surrounded by urban alleys that reflect an untouched, overgrown environment. For more than 20 years, she documented that same neighbourhood through changing seasons, drawn to reflections in puddles after rain, the play of light on old fences, and the quiet simplicity of bare trees in winter. Her work is often described as nostalgic, with a colourful, confident feel that captures the charm of an earlier era. That sense of Canadian icon imagery resonates with viewers not just in Alberta, but across the country.

A self-taught artist, Duke learned early on from Jon Lindheim, a celebrated Norwegian painter, during family visits to Norway, before committing to painting full time in 2000. She has been represented by galleries in Edmonton and Calgary.
