Biography

Scott MacKenzie is a landscape painter based in Edmonton, Alberta, whose work has been shaped by time spent living near Lake Superior, the Indian Ocean, and the Rocky Mountains, as well as extensive travel across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. His paintings favour bold, powerful subjects, mountains, lone trees, and rocky coastlines, rendered with a strong balance of colour and contemporary design aimed at capturing their spirit and character. Working in oils, he builds each piece slowly and deliberately, often developing a single work over weeks or months through many layers of paint. His goal is to convey not just the scene itself, but the feeling of standing present within it.

MacKenzie's work has been displayed in galleries across Ontario and Alberta, and purchased by collectors from coast to coast in Canada. He believes the most essential quality of art is its ability to evoke an emotional response, and sees it as every artist's responsibility to create something both captivating and timeless.
